Professor Helen Praetz


Professor Helen Praetz Professor Helen Praetz is Emeritus Professor at RMIT University where she served as Professor and Dean of Education and Training, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Higher Education) and Director TAFE, and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students). She had extensive experience in education as a senior executive in the State Board of Education and the Victorian Department of Education and served on numerous boards and reviews dealing with post-compulsory education and training. She chaired the Victorian Qualifications Authority 2001-2004 and has chaired the ERC Board since 2003.

Mr Allan Ballagh
RMIT TAFE


Allan Ballagh is Director RMIT TAFE, a position that he has held since November 2003. Allan is the deputy chairman of the RMIT Academic Board and is member of the RMIT Council. Allan has a long career in the TAFE sector. Prior to moving to RMIT in 1998 as TAFE Projects Director in the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Teaching of Learning, Allan held a range leadership and senior management positions at Western Melbourne Institute of TAFE.

Professor Gerald Burke
Centre for the Economics of Education and Training (CEET)


Gerald Burke is executive director of the Centre for the Economics of Education and Training (CEET) and a professorial fellow in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. From 2004 to 2007 he was chair of the Victorian Qualifications Authority and a member of the Victorian Learning and Employment Skills Commission and of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. He is currently a member of the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and of the Australian Bureau of Statistics Education and Training Statistics Advisory Committee. He has written extensively on finance, participation in education and training and on education and employment. Recent work has been on costs and expenditure, demand for training and with Chandra Shah, on forecasts of employment and training requirements for the national training reform taskforce.



Ms Veronica Volkoff
University of Melbourne


Veronica Volkoff is a Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Post-compulsory Education and Lifelong Learning at the University of Melbourne. Her research work has mainly focussed on equity in education across sectors and comparative studies. During 2006, Veronica completed an evaluation of the impact of provider inclusiveness strategies on participation levels in vocational education and training across all Australian states and territories for NCVER, an analysis of effective TAFE, ACE and Private provider delivery to 15-24 year olds for the Department of Education in Victoria and longitudinal research of study participation and outcomes for people in Adult Community Education providers in Victoria for the ACFE Board. Veronica's international work has included VET design, research and capacity building projects for AusAID and UNESCO in China, South Africa, India and Kazakhstan including a 5.5 year AusAID funded VET reform project in China.


Dr John Spierings
Dusseldorp Skills Forum (DSF)


Dr John Spierings is a Research Strategist with the Dusseldorp Skills Forum (DSF), a national public interest enterprise. For nearly 20 years DSF has provided research and advocacy in the development of Australian education and skills formation policy. John worked as a lecturer or researcher at Melbourne, Monash and Adelaide universities before joining DSF in 1998. His PhD is a study of Australian business management between 1918 and 1940. He was also a St Kilda Councillor from 1990 to 1994, and Mayor in 1992-93.

Dr Jacqueline Watts
VISTA


Dr Jacqueline Watts VISTA Dr Jackie Watts is Executive Director of VISTA - the Association of VET Professionals. VISTA is a cross-sectoral non-profit association which seeks to enhance the status of VET profession and to ultimately sustain a robust national training by providing career development opportunities for the VET professional community in Victoria. Jackie began her career as a corporate librarian and has maintained an involvement in the business world. Jackie re-trained as a secondary teacher in the early 90's and was immediately drawn towards the VET sector working in TAFE and in VET arm of the YMCA.


Ms Fiona Purcell
Outer Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network (OELLEN)

Fiona is Executive Officer of the Outer Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network (OELLEN), one of 31 LLEN's across Victoria set up to improve education and employment outcomes for young people aged 15 -19. The role of the LLEN is to develop partnerships between local education providers, industry and community to ensure young people, in particularly those disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education and training, have a link to local opportunities. Fiona began her career as a secondary teacher in the 70's and continued in TAFE before working as a consultant with a focus on school to work programs.


Mr Adam Baxter
BoilerRoom Direct


Adam Baxter has enjoyed a career in marketing and advertising for over 25 years, working with major corporations at home and abroad on brand, media and direct marketing initiatives. Adam's career includes time as the Executive Director of the prestigious Pacific Rim Forum and Multicultural Affairs Manager for Telstra before leaving to establish Victoria's first full service multicultural advertising agency, delivering important political and social change campaigns for public and private sector clients. He is still active in the advertising sector, currently specializing in direct marketing strategy and implementation. Adam is currently Group Account Director at BoilerRoom Direct.
